Surprisingly YES!

Cordyceps is a genus of ascomycetes fungi. Out of 400 species of Cordyceps discovered, at present two are in the limelight of health research- Cordyceps Sinensis and Cordyceps militaris. Cordyceps militaris and its specific ingredient, cordycepin, have attracted much attention with multiple health-promoting properties, including anti-inflammatory, anticancer, anti-diabetic, and anti-nephritic and many more.

Cordyceps militaris has been used extensively as a crude drug and a folk tonic food in East Asia due to its various pharmacological activities.

The fungi have been hand-collected, dried and used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries to treat fatigue, sickness, kidney disease, boost strength and low sex drive.

This mushroom has received attention as a health supplement to improve longevity, endurance, and human health and as an alternative medicine to ameliorate diseases including stroke, sore throat, tuberculosis, epilepsy, and cancer. Many active compounds such as mannitol, ergosterol, polysaccharides, and cordycepin have been identified from C. militaris, and studies with these compounds showed various pharmacological activities with antiviral, anti-oxidative, anti-obesity, anti-diabetic, anti-nephritic anti-inflammatory, anti-platelet aggregation effects.

Cordyceps increase the body’s production of ATP, which is essential for delivering energy to the improve muscles.

It improves the way your body uses oxygen, especially during exercise performance in older and younger adults, but not in well-trained athletes.

Researchers on their antioxidant content explain their anti-ageing potential.

Cordyceps have been shown to inhibit the growth of many types of human cancer cells, including lung, colon, skin and liver cancers.

Cordyceps have anti-tumor effects on lymphoma, melanoma and lung cancer.

Cordyceps keep blood sugar levels within a healthy range by mimicking the action of insulin by metabolizing the extra glucose in the body, increasing insulin sensitivity and increasing the liver’s output of the glucose-regulating enzymes glucosidase and hexokinase. 95% of the patients treated with Cordyceps showed improvement in their blood sugar profiles, compared with results of 54% improvement by other drugs.

Cordyceps are approved for the treatment of arrhythmia, a condition in which the heartbeat is too slow, too fast or irregular.

Research has shown that Cordyceps decrease “bad” LDL cholesterol.

AE-PSE-PS(Acidic extractable polysaccharide) decreased the levels of serum lipid, lipid peroxidation, and blood glucose; improved glucose and insulin resistance; enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities; and attenuated the injuries of the liver, kidney, and pancreas in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus by hypoglycaemic and hypolipidemic activities. Some evidence suggests that they may also protect against kidney disease, a common complication of diabetes.

Inhibitory effects on albuminuria, creatinine, urea, nitrogen and n-acetyl-β-d-glucosaminidase verified CM’s renal protective activity.
